The setting is a hotel in Cleveland, Ohio in the early 1930's. The fate of a charity concert, sold out to 1000 patrons is in jeopardy because the Italian tenor hired to sing the lead has fallen into a drunken stupor and is presumed dead.

The impresario's assistant who has operatic ambitions blacks up and wins acclaim as Otello. The tenor wakes up and dons his costume and ignites chaos in which the two Moores are absurdly confused by two besotted ladies.

Add a volatile Italian wife, an outrageous bellboy, a cynical impressario and you have recipe to rival the classic farce.
